বিশ্বকাপে আলজেরিয়ার ভরসা জিনেদিন জিদানের পুত্র লুকা: আর্জেন্টিনার বিপক্ষে অগ্নিপরীক্ষা

বিশ্বকাপ ফুটবলThe 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to witness a thrilling and emotional encounter as Group J’s opening match features a clash between reigning champions Argentina and North African powerhouse Algeria. However, beyond the tactical battles on the field, the spotlight is increasingly on Algeria’s new stalwart in goal – Luka Zidane. For Luka, son of French football legend Zinedine Zidane, this match is not only a historic moment but also the biggest test of his international career.

Luka Zidane, the second of Zinedine Zidane’s four sons who are all involved in football, has chosen the role of a goalkeeper. Luka, of French descent, played regularly for various age-group teams in France, including the U-17 and U-20 sides, in the early stages of his career. He even tasted victory in the 2015 UEFA European Under-17 Championship with France. However, at the crucial juncture of his international career, he made a significant decision. Opting against the alternative path of the French national team, he chose Algeria, the country of his grandparents.

This World Cup marks the first for the goalkeeper, who performs regularly for Spanish club Granada, in the ‘Desert Warriors’ jersey. Naturally, as the son of legendary Zinedine Zidane, the expectations of Algerian football fans, as well as the entire football world, are sky-high.

Luka Zidane’s journey to the World Cup was not an easy one. Just before the tournament, in April, he suffered a serious injury during a match for Granada in the Spanish league. In a collision with an opposing striker, he sustained severe injuries to his jaw and chin. Given the initial diagnosis and the severity of the injury, many believed his dream of playing in the World Cup was over.

However, defying all obstacles, mental stress, and medical concerns, he returned to the field with indomitable willpower. Recovering at an incredible pace, the star goalkeeper secured his place in Algeria’s final 26-man World Cup squad. Despite returning from injury, the pressure of performing on the World Cup stage is immense.
