রাজধানীর রামপুরায় ‘জুলাই বিপ্লবে’ সংঘটিত মানবতাবিরোধী অপরাধের মামলায় ঢাকা মেট্রোপলিটন পুলিশের (ডিএমপি) সাবেক কমিশনার হাবিবুর রহমানসহ পাঁচজনের বিরুদ্ধে রায় ঘোষণা করা হবে আজ। এই ঘটনায় আমির হোসনকে গুলি করে হত্যা এবং মায়া ইসলাম ও মো. নাদিমকে হত্যার অভিযোগ আনা হয়েছে। আন্তর্জাতিক অপরাধ ট্রাইব্যুনাল-১ এর চেয়ারম্যান বিচারপতি গোলাম মর্তূজা মজুমদারের নেতৃত্বাধীন তিন সদস্যের বিচারিক প্যানেল এই রায় ঘোষণা করবে।

মামলার পাঁচ আসামির মধ্যে চারজন পলাতক রয়েছেন। হাবিবুর রহমান ছাড়া খিলগাঁও অঞ্চলের সাবেক এডিসি রাশেদুল ইসলাম, রামপুরা থানার সাবেক ওসি মশিউর রহমান এবং সাবেক এসআই তারিকুল ইসলাম ভূঁইয়া পলাতক। একমাত্র গ্রেপ্তারকৃত আসামি পুলিশের সাবেক এএসআই চঞ্চল চন্দ্র সরকার। তাকে কারাগার থেকে ট্রাইব্যুনালে হাজির করা হবে।

মামলার প্রধান প্রসিকিউটর আমিনুল ইসলাম জানিয়েছেন, আসামিরা নিজেদের অপরাধ স্বীকার করেছে এবং তারা অমানবিক আচরণ করেছে। প্রসিকিউশন আসামিদের সর্বোচ্চ শাস্তির দাবি জানিয়েছে। এই রায়ের পুরো কার্যক্রম বাংলাদেশ টেলিভিশন (বিটিভি) সরাসরি সম্প্রচার করবে। এটি পুনর্গঠিত আন্তর্জাতিক অপরাধ ট্রাইব্যুনালের পঞ্চম রায় হতে চলেছে।

এর আগে, গত ১৫ জুন প্রসিকিউশন ও আসামিপক্ষের যুক্তিতর্ক উপস্থাপন সম্পন্ন হয়। উভয়পক্ষের যুক্তিতর্ক শেষে ট্রাইব্যুনাল রায়ের জন্য আজ, ২৮ জুন দিন নির্ধারণ করেন। এই মামলায় তদন্ত কর্মকর্তাসহ মোট ১৩ জন সাক্ষীThe verdict in the case of crimes against humanity, involving former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman and four others, will be delivered today. The case pertains to the killing of Amir Hossain by shooting and the murders of Maya Islam and Md. Nadim during the ‘July Revolution’ in Rampura. A three-member judicial panel led by Justice Golam Mortuza Majumdar of the International Crimes Tribunal-1 will announce the verdict.

Out of the five accused, four are on the run. Besides Habibur Rahman, former ADC of Khilgaon region Rashedul Islam, former OC of Rampura Police Station Mashiur Rahman, and former SI Tarikul Islam Bhuiyan are absconding. The only arrested accused is former ASI Chanchal Chandra Sarkar of the police, who will be brought to the tribunal from jail today.

Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam stated that the accused have confessed to their crimes and exhibited inhumane behavior. The prosecution has demanded the maximum penalty for the accused. The entire proceedings of the verdict will be broadcast live by Bangladesh Television (BTV). This will be the fifth verdict of the reconstituted International Crimes Tribunal.

Previously, on June 15, the arguments from both the prosecution and the defense were concluded. Following the arguments, the tribunal set today, June 28, for the pronouncement of the verdict. A total of 13 witnesses, including the investigation officer, have testified in this case.
